🎥 Tear Suture Scab
Within Every Tear, There's a Suture. Every Scar—A Scab.
Written and directed by Ayo Janeen Jackson
Original score by Greg Tate
ABOUT THE FILM
Inspired by The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries housed at The Met Cloisters, Tear Suture Scab reimagines the unicorn as a vessel of Black redemption through an Afro-futurist lens.
Surrealist in form and absurdist in tone, the film is an allegory of death, resurrection, and the quiet release of generational trauma. Fantastical visuals and coded humor disarm the viewer—making space for deeper reflection on the violence that shapes Black American life.
Not only is the main character fighting for liberation, she is confronted by her shadow self.
Scored by the legendary cultural critic and musician Greg Tate; Tear Suture Scab was his final film project.
The film runs 24 minutes.
